YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The Youth Development Professional plans and implements structured educational, social, athletic and recreational programs and activities of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass for young people.
Major Responsibilities:
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION
- Delivers programs, services and activities that facilitate achievement of Youth Development Strategy and overall mission and strategic plan of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass (BGCSGP) and prepares youth for success.
- Stimulates the minds and challenges the bodies of young people by appropriately implementing educational, social, athletic and recreational activities to include delivering at least one National Boys and Girls Club Program and one personal program per program block. Delivers one special event per quarter as assigned by the Site Director.
- Exemplifies a positive role model for young people to emulate through dress, communication and attitude.
- Follows BGCSGP employee handbook rules and guidelines.
- Prepares and coordinates all materials and facilities required for various activities and programs. With the Site Director prepares Program Development Plan before the beginning of all program blocks.
- Individually and through other staff members preserves the health and safety of all individuals associated with the Club, especially the participants at the Site. Maintains current First Aid and CPR certification.
- With the Site Director develops original educational, social, athletic and recreational programs always keeping programming fresh and impactful. Helps management staff evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure that they meet stated objectives,member needs and interests.
- Empathetically critiques, counsels and/or effectively guides those members when necessary upon advisement of the Site Director. Is familiar with the full BGCSGP Discipline Policy to include the proper usage of the Behavior Incident Form.
- Works with the site Volunteer Coordinator to help acclimate volunteers and Junior Leaders to assist with programs and activities.
- Enhances the appearance and preserves the safety of the facilities and vehicles of the Club through consistent implementation of maintenance and safety procedures.
- Performs other related assignments delegated by the Site Director.
MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Effectively communicates the services offered by the Club and registers/takes payment for those services if required.
- Appropriately recognizes the accomplishments of all Club members through the use of awards, prizes and incentives.
- With the Site Director/Program Supervisor helps to develop partnerships with parents, teachers and the community at large.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Pass the school district paraprofessional test
- Experience working with young people in a group setting (internships, student teaching and volunteer work may be acceptable)
- Ability to motivate youth, manage behavior problems, and organize and supervise members in a safe environment
- Decision making, planning, organizing, communicating and analyzing skills required, as well as the ability to lead educational, social, athletic and recreational activities in small and large group settings.
- CPR certificates and first Aid certificate.
- Valid State Drivers License
